How to subscribe to a blog {6}

 Here are some of my answers to commonly asked questions about blogs and blogging:

What is the difference between a blog and a website?
A blog is like an online diary where a blogger can generate interest about a particular niche subject or topic that they have chosen to cover. Like a dialogue, informal, and inviting of response. Much online traffic is generated at blogs and then re-directed to the formal website. As a photographer, I like how Jasmine Star describes it, "“Your website is your handshake, and your blog is your voice.” My portfolio website shows our best work, provides some information, and is only updated once every 3-6 months. (while keeping the same layout) - This blog, however, is my "voice" - discussing topics and details more in depth, updating frequently, and talking more openly and candidly than I would on my professional website.

What is "RSS"?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated things like blog entries, news headlines, audio and video in a standardized format.  The purpose of RSS is to have the web sites of your choice deliver their latest news & posts to your monitor. In other words, instead of having to bookmark and visit 25 different sites each day to read blogs, weather, sports, etc., you just go to one place and see it all combined and organized into a single window for you. (The reader does all the hard, it's great!)

What is "subscribing to a blog"?
Subscribing to a blog essentially means you're signing up to get their blog every time they post something new.

How do I start subscribing to blogs?
In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, you need 2 things: an RSS reader (like Google Reader, which is what I use) and the url (web address) of the RSS feed that you wish to subscribe.

I will walk you through it step by step with Google Reader, since it's what I know.

1. Sign into your gmail account, or create a new account.
2. In your gmail, in the top left hand corner, click "Reader"
3. Then at the top left again click "Add a subscription" where you can search or enter the blog/rss you'd like to follow.  (type in "" and subscribe to my blog!!)
4. Another way to add feeds to your reader is by clicking the orange logo or hitting "subscribe" on some of your favorite websites. Then it will give you the option to add it to your google reader or whatever you may choose.

Hope this helps!
