Q&A with Melia + Amy:
Amy: How did you get into the wedding business?
Melia: I got into the floral/wedding business because I needed a creative outlet and I absolutely love working with flowers. I was told once that you either have the gift or you don’t… and I took off from there.
Amy: What is your company’s philosophy when working with wedding couples?
Melia: I really try to connect with the couple, making sure I know what they want and get a feel for how their flowers should be to make that day perfect.
Amy: When someone tells you that they’d like you to do their wedding flowers, where do you go from there?
Melia: We sit down for a flower consultation and go over what they are looking for flower wise, I then email out a price proposal of everything they picked out. If they want to book the date all they need to do is sign a contract and send in the deposit.
Amy: How do you help couples customize their weddings?
Melia: Customizing your wedding is really just putting a little personal touch into them to really show people your style, I can get a pretty good feel of what people are like just after a few minutes, especially when they bring in pictures of flowers that catch their eye.
Melia: I try to meet with couples as soon as possible but after they have chosen the colors of the wedding.
Amy: What are some arrangements that you don’t get requested often but you think look great for a wedding?
Melia: I love the look of more architectural design with grasses and fun lines, this design would work best with a modern bride.
Amy: What inspires you?
Melia: I have to say the nature inspires me. I’ve spent a lot of time in the back country and have grown to really appreciate the beauty.
Amy: What do you think sets you apart from other florists?
Melia: Every florist has their own unique style, I would just say to brides to make sure they connect with the florist and be comfortable with them seeing your own vision.
Amy: What is something most people don’t know about the process of arranging wedding flowers?
Melia: I don’t think people realize how much work is involved with cleaning and processing flowers, the creativity that goes into putting them together and the overall love florists put into their work.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
Melia: That it’s glamorous, but we love what we do :)Amy: What are some things brides should look for when looking for a florist?
Melia: Look for a florist that does bouquets you love, someone that listens to you and gets a feel for you personal style. That way you can’t go wrong!
