Tavis and I photographed this wedding a couple of weeks ago at this venue with a Leavenworth address, but it's right outside of the city of Plain, WA! So many wonderful things about this day I don’t even know where to start. First of all, I love Canadians. What a huge group of friendly and fun people! Tavis told me that I picked up on their accent a little bit and I believe it. I’m very impressionable with Canadian accents… it happens every time! Nikki, Paul, and the family are all in the business of jade mining. I’ve never met a gemologist before so I loved that for their wedding favors they gave personalized jade keychains. Because they’re all into jade mining I figured that’s how they met, but actually Nikki said it was through mutual friends and they just happen to have that common interest! These two are great – they were great sports with all of the photos throughout the whole day and we enjoyed getting to know them. They along with their whole bridal party and family are very photogenic! Great people and awesome venue made for some gooooood photos!! This was our first time photographing a wedding at MountainSprings Lodge but it’s a huge campus. Everyone traveled very far to attend the wedding, but it’s a great destination! I like that it’s a little retreat out in the mountains.
I saw a few firsts at this wedding.
- The MC announced the couple as Paul and Nikki Makepeace (her maiden name) which I’m not sure if he did on purpose or accident because he knew the couple :)
- Normally when we’re at weddings the classic “chime your knife on the glass” means the couple is supposed to kiss. This time, the MC said there are two ways to make the couple kiss. 1. You get a group to stand up and start singing part of a love song. 2. Walk up to the head table and kiss your significant other…. Then the bride and groom have to copy that exact kiss. We saw lots of creative ideas which resulted in lots of laughs. Great idea if you ask me!
- They had lots of great speeches given too – one of the bridesmaids asked questions about her sister the bride, and if the groom got them wrong, he and his groomsmen had to take a drink and do 5 pushups. All of these things are excellent ideas and make for great candids for me :)
- The last FIRST I’ll mention happened at the reception on a more personal note. I was standing there and felt something twitch on my stomach. At first I thought it was a bug stuck in my dress but then I concluded that it was the baby moving! Felt it for the first time!
