Photography Internship for THIS SUMMER

Now accepting applications!! This summer we have an internship position available to work alongside Memory Montage Photography. Summer internships are designed to give practical experience in photographing weddings as well as useful business knowledge. Interns finish the summer with a better idea of what it takes to find success in this high-stress industry. Other opportunities include senior and family photography as jobs present themselves over the internship season. Each Saturday you will come along with one of our photography teams shooting a wedding. You will see our camera settings, client interaction, posing, lighting, and the flow of a wedding day. Only a small portion of running a photography business is shooting... the biggest part is client interaction and directing a session! You will represent Memory Montage Photography and be referred to as our photography assistant on wedding days. Your assisting duties include but are not limited to: carrying a few things, running mini errands, watching for details, and also snapping a few photos. As a thank you we will gift you a registration to our photography essentials class, as well as answer your questions about photography and business throughout the summer! To apply for this position, click here.

Q: When is the deadline?
A: The deadline to apply for this summer's internship is March 31st. The application must be submitted by that date in order to be considered.

Q: How many interns do you take on per summer?
A: We will be accepting 1-2 interns.

Q: When and how will you make your decision?
A: The first week of April we will review all of the applications and start narrowing down the best fit based on the application, references, and availability.

Q: For whom is the internship designed?
A: The internship is designed for creative individuals who have experience in graphic design and/or photography and are interested in working with a successful wedding photography business for the summer.

Q: What is the commitment timeline?
A: The commitment timeline is to attend 10-15 weddings between April-October.

Q: How many hours per week?
A: 8-11 hours on Saturdays, along with optional hours on other days depending upon scheduled events. The summer internship is a serious commitment. We will count on you to attend 10-15 weddings! If there are Saturdays you are unavailable, we are happy to accommodate if scheduled in advance. The weddings you would like to attend will be scheduled together with me at the start of the internship.

Q: Where will the weddings be?

Q: Is there a stipend?
A: No, this is an unpaid internship designed to give beginner photographers more experience in the field.

Q: Can I participate in the Summer Internship and still work another job or attend summer school?
A: Yes of course! We just need a commitment from you on the 10-15 Saturdays that we decide on.

Q: I have another commitment during the summer and will not be able to complete the entire April - October commitment. Am I eligible?
A: If you are unable to commit to the entire wedding season, the reason must be stated in the application. We will review that and consider your information when making selections.

Q: I am unavailable most Saturdays this summer, could I just come along to a couple of weddings without being an intern?
A: Coming to weddings with us is an experience we usually reserve for interns only. We work a lot with interns before and after the wedding answering questions, going over wedding etiquette, preferences, and talking about the couple, as they are assisting us and directly representing our business. This is why it's exclusively for 1-2 interns per summer so that we are all on the same page, and we can give our full time and attention with that intern without being spread too thin.

Q: I want to apply, but the March 31st deadline has passed. Can I still apply?
A: Contact the studio: info@memorymp.com for internship status.

If you're interested in working and learning with us but the internship is not for you, we also offer photography workshops and mentoring sessions throughout the year. Find more info here.

{What our past interns have to say}

{Sasha Baez, summer 2015}
"I had a blast this summer interning with MMP, Amy and Tavis are so awesome to work with! They are fun, creative, professional and go above and beyond to make sure you have those wonderful once in a lifetime memories captured forever, so you can look back and see every detail of your special day. Not only did I have fun with Amy and Tavis, I learned a lot too! I learned how to interact with clients and make them feel more comfortable in front of my lens, natural posing, lighting, the flow of photographing a wedding and much, much more!  I love how Amy and Tavis connect with their clients, I couldn't tell if they had met them once, twice or had been friends with them for years!  I walk away from this internship with amazing friends, awesome memories, lots of laughs, a passion to grow my photography business, a love for weddings I didn't know I had and even some tears, some of those toasts really got to me!! I am so happy you chose me to follow you around all summer!! "

{Tyler + Celeste, summer 2014}

“I don't know how to thank you enough for the opportunity you gave me. You are both incredible at your job. I learned so many things, not just about the business, but about what it takes to be a great photographer. Thank you for all your patience and for opening the door to a new chapter in my life. I will take the skills you have taught me and put them to good use I PROMISE :)" - Celeste

The both of you went above and beyongd for me in more ways that I could have imagined. All of your help is so appreciated. You started as mentors, but became good friends. I admire all of your work and you inspired me every weekend during the weddings and mentor sessions we spent working together. My knowledge of running a photography business has expanded incredibily becuase of your help and advice. I hope one day I can have you photogrraph my own wedding. {Lachelle, summer 2013}

Working with Memory Montage was an endearing experience. Bottom line: MMP is the best! It’s often difficult to find people who are willing to teach, let alone finding people who allow you to follow their every move and pelt them with questions, which they gladly answer. The people at Memory Montage are generous with their time, talents, knowledge and experience and are interested in helping you succeed as a photographer. I’ve often been amazed by how freely they share information and by how sincerely they care about people. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I had during the 2013 wedding season as I learned from Tavis, Amy, Rhiann and Haley. By the end of most wedding days, my feet were sore, my head was spinning as I tried to digest the new skills I’d attained, and my stomach was sore from all of the laughter. (: In all honesty, working with Memory Montage was one of the most rewarding and joyful experiences of my year. I love the people, I love what they do, I love how they conduct business and I love how they serve their clients with excellence. They not only create vibrant and fun photography, they themselves are vibrant and fun! I couldn’t recommend anyone more highly than Memory Montage Photography. I only have good things to say about them and their internship program. They’re the best! Seriously, these people are amazing. (:"

{Magali Valdez, summer 2013}

"I first want to say thank you to amy and Tavis for choosing me to be one of their interns this summer. I only went to 4 weddings but i learned so much from those 4. Amy & Tavis, as well as Rhiann and Haley, were always answering any questions I had. I learned about lighting and interacting with clients and posing as well as many other things. Everyone at MMP are such a blessing! They love to teach and they love their clients. My only regret is not being able to live closer and attend more weddings! ;) My advice for the next intern is to definitely take advantage of every second with MMP, whether it's for only 4 weddings or the whole summer. I walked away refreshed and excited about my photography business!"
{Here is a photo from MAGALI's wedding, that Lachelle took of me behind the scenes} :)

{Jessica Hunter, summer 2013}

"I had the opportunity to intern with MMP this summer and I am extremely thankful that I was able to fit it into my schedule. I applied to intern with MMP because I knew they were dedicated to teaching their interns and they did exactly that plus more. Tavis and Amy are very successful in the photography business because of their professionalism, knowledge and ability to connect with their clients. All of these aspects were areas I wanted to learn more about as I started my business; specifically, the wedding industry. In the fast upbeat day of a wedding there are a lot of situations to consider and timelines to follow along with the vast majority of people you interact with throughout the day. I was able to learn a lot about what to do when adversity is thrown into the mix of a wedding day along with various scenarios I wouldn’t think of. All in all, Tavis and Amy handle everything with great enthusiasm and professionalism to make the day less stressful and provide flow to an already hectic day; and to also mention, are so fun!  In addition with being able to see first-hand how they interact and work, I was also able to do a lot of hands on work which really helped my growth. Both do a fantastic job of providing immediate feedback and answering questions you may have in a timely matter, which allows for quick learning. Not only did I have an amazing experience with MMP, but I was also able to build a relationship with Tavis and Amy that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much for everything you two have helped me with; I literally do not know what I would have done if I didn’t have you as a resource!!"
{Megan Brien, summer 2012}

As an aspiring professional photographer I dreamed of shadowing other wedding photographers to see how they did their job on the day of a wedding. And this past summer that dream came true as I interned with Memory Montage Photography. My internship with MMP was incredible, to say the least! As I accompanied Tavis and Amy to multiple weddings I learned about different equipment, camera settings, lighting and posing techniques and how to interact with clients. I also got to learn about the post wedding process; sorting, editing and so much more! Not only did I get to learn so much, but I had a blast as well! I enjoyed every moment I was with Tavis and Amy this summer. Even in the midst of wedding craziness they never hesitated to answer one of my many questions or take the time to reflect with me about the day and what I learned. It was a true blessing to intern with such fun, creative people who are extremely professional and pour all their heart and energy into every wedding, senior or family they photograph. Looking back I am extremely grateful for the internship; for all that I learned and the new friends I made. Thank you Tavis, Amy and the rest of the MMP family!

{Mica Sansaver, summer 2011}

Wow! What a year it has been working with Amy and Tavis of Memory Montage Photography. This past year I completed a six month internship that also landed me a job working under Amy and Tavis as an Administrative Assistant. I have been blessed by their kindness and friendship as Amy and Tavis have taught me so much about the photography industry, but also many valuable life skills. Amy and Tavis took me into their MMP family in the midst of a busy wedding season, for just that they are awesome. They both taught me all about their business and answered questions will knowledgeable insight. They gave me the opportunity to go with them to various weddings and engagement shoots, where I watched them work with their clients. Every where I went with MMP people would always express how professional but FUN they are to work with. I completely agree! Tavis would always ask me "what I wanted to learn more about". I really valued those conversations, as I learned about different photography styles, camera equipment, and running a profession business. Amy was so patient as she taught me a lot about Lightroom and Photoshop. I spent many hours laughing and working in their office, all the while learning about photography. Their passion for their work is contagious and I had an amazing experience working with the MMP family!

{Leanna Hull, summer 2010}

“My summer internship with Memory Montage was an eye-opening and thrilling experience. I had the opportunity to see photography from not only the creative side but the important business components of running a reliable, organized and committed to the finished product type of business. Amy and Tavis were not only amazing bosses, but mentors and friends as well. Learning about the proper equipment, lighting tricks and editing styles was just scratching the surface of their creative professionalism. They both bring so much to the table in knowledge and experience. The care they pour into their work and the patience they had while teaching me was refreshing every day. Aspects like surveying the event venue, capturing the personalities of the couple and keeping a positive attitude throughout the day are what make Memory Montage so personal and unique. I am so thankful of the time I spent interning under Amy and Tavis Guild, and walked away far more inspired and prepared for my future in photography than when I came.”

{Haley Holmes, summer 2009}

"During the summer of 2009 I did an internship with Tavis and Amy, and learned more than I ever thought I could know about photography. Over the course of the summer I got to become familiar with equipment that I had never used before, and learn through hands-on experience how to be intentional with my shots using the the manual settings on the camera. I really came to understand the flow of a wedding day, and taking on responsibilities of the job. From watching, listening, and observing the way Tavis and Amy operate, I was able to pick up on their style, and the things they do to get the most they can out of their pictures. My overall experience was great, and so beneficial to me in expanding my knowledge in photography. It was a fun and exciting way for me to get exactly the kind of experience I needed to help me grow as a photographer"

The Majsterek family in the Yakima River Canyon

Tavis and I have known these guys for about four years. We did their winter engagement session, summer wedding (at their home in Ellensburg) and now this family session. What a treat! I've always felt a natural friendship with them that makes it so we can stand around and just chat and chat. And chat some more. And what do you know, now we have little babes three months apart! We brought Lincoln to the session too so the baby friends could meet :)

Let me tell you all the reasons I love this family. Nick and Madeline are like a natural extension of each other. They talk and treat each other with such care, understanding and love that it creates a natural romance and friendship. Witnessing their marriage was one blessing to me and now seeing them as parents is just icing on the cake! Even during our brief time with them during the session I loved seeing them bend over backwards to make their daughter happy... And they themselves lit up and laughed with joy when she was happy. Awesome parents!!

And then there's Vivienne... A pure delight. Being so close in age to my own son I studied her every feature. Beautiful brown eyes, brown hair with a little curl and a hint of olive skin. Pretty much the opposite of Lincoln! Her favorite thing seemed to be 1) the bug spray (holding it) and 2) her owl puppet from Ikea. I'm glad we could incorporate one of her favorite things into the session!

Hands down my absolute favorite part about my job is hanging out with brides, grooms and families. I am happy to have photographed this family this year and continue to tell the story of their family legacy. Thank you Majstereks!!

Fall Family Portraiture || Lee Family

Yakima Family Photographers

Eric, Jesse and Madilynn make up the perfect little family of three!They love doing things outdoors including camping, fishing, and hunting. As we were preparing for this family session Jesse shared with us, "Our new found hobby is 'farming.' We had a garden this past spring/summer. Now we are preparing to raise pigs and chickens in the spring. In addition, we love Jesus, and attend Harvest Community Church. (so we know Amy and Tavis, ;) ) I, Jesse, am a RN at YVMH. My husband is starting back to school at CWU for his degree in Accounting next week."

It was so fun to photograph these three!

Moser Family || Yakima Family Portraiture

Yakima Family Photographers

Beautiful. I don't know if there are many things more meaningful than capturing treasured moments like these with your family. Family portraiture is an investment for your family that lasts a lifetime.

There are two adorable children in the Moser Family. Their son is named Brayden and is almost three years old. Their daughter Kami just turned six months and is such a sweetheart! Their parents, Montine and Aaron wanted a session that would capture the beauty of family and the innocence and joy of their children. As a family, they love camping, playing on the water with skis and quading with friends. They are also frequent visitors of the Oregon Coast sand dunes.

Thanks for letting us photograph your family Mosers!

Haley + Brad || Ellensburg Engagement Photography

Ellensburg Engagement Photographers

I am really excited about this engagement in particular because...Haley is my sister! And one of the Memory Montage photographers! This was a beautiful fall day in Ellensburg for their engagement session and I love how their joy for their engagement is so evident through the portraits.

Here's the engagement story as told by Haley: "We were taking a day trip down the Oregon coast and Brad wanted to take me to a certain look out point he liked. So we walked down Falcon Cove road near Cannon Beach to a big clearing with a beautiful view of the ocean, and large old trees all around. It was pouring rain. Brad got down on one knee with the ring he had custom-made, told me how he wanted to be my husband, and asked me to be his wife!"

Congratulations Haley and Brad!
