Yakima Valley Wedding with Native American Traditions || Shawn + Chance

Yakima Wedding Photographer

"I Was Made To Love You" - Gerald Levert

I recall when we first met, a long time ago
How could I forget they way I felt
When I first laid eyes on you

I remember saying to my friends
There is my future wife and then
I took the step to need
Someone who would change my life

Tavis and I photographed this wedding at a private residence in Harrah, Washington. Harrah is a town in Yakima County that resides on the Yakama Indian Reservation. The wedding combined modern traditions with Native American customs which made for some outstanding photography.

Shawn and Chance have been together for six years and Shawn carried six roses in her wedding bouquet to symbolize each year they have been in love. She wore a white lace, floor length gown and a blusher veil that complimented her sleek updo hairstyle. Chance wore a vest made by Diana Begay and a traditional handmade necklace. Both the bride and groom wore colorful beaded wedding moccasins for the wedding ceremony. During the ceremony, Chance placed a beaded hair clip with two feathers in Shawn's hair. Then his mother Cooky and Shawn's Aunt Jana came forward and wrapped a wedding shawl around the couple to symbolize their union.

Shawn's bridesmaids included her cousins; Izzy, Dani, Larkynn, and Lottie, and her good friends Tahnie and Kristin. The wedding colors were coral and aqua and the bridesmaids wore coral dresses. Chance's groomsmen included his brother Cash, nephews Josh and Anthony, and good friends L.B., Alex (bubs), and Anthony (RayRay). Eight year old Watuyma and six year old Melia were flower girls and little five year old Janessa carried a sign that read, "Uncle Chance, Here comes your bride." The flower girls wore dresses that had silk, coral rose petals in the hem of their floor length dresses. Shawn and Chance's daughers, Chassidy and Julie were the couple's ring ladies and wore aqua dresses.

The bridal party started the reception right by forming a receiving aisle for the Shawn and Chance on a large outdoor stage. The happy couple announced the exciting news that they are expecting a baby boy at their reception. Chance danced a special dance with Shawn and fireworks lit up the night sky as they were dancing. Chassidy and Julie each took their turn with a daddy daughter dance.

Shawn and Chance are a very positive, fun couple and they have a strong emotional connection. Towards the end of the night, guests formed a heart that surrounded the happy couple. Take a peek at these photos because we captured the moment and included it in the photo collage below. Congratulations Shawn and Chance!
